Beyond Blood and Soil: The Rise of Citizenship by Investment March 30, 2016

Citizenship by investment programs are on the rise. An increasing number of countries are now running formal programs that allow the moneyed elite to apply for citizenship in exchange for financial contributions. What lies behind this spread? And what does the commodification of citizenship mean for political membership more broadly? This talk explores the growth of the new citizenship industry as a part of wider transformations in citizenship.
